The Night Before Fourth Grade

(written on August 30, 2016)

Dear Abigail,

You are all tucked in, cozy and cuddled with your sleeping friends. I read to you 'Mommy in My Pocket'.  It's an oldie but a goodie.  Part of me wishing I could be in your pocket tomorrow for your first day of fourth grade.  Not because you need me there.  You certainly don't. But because I don't want to miss any of the magic.

1

The magic of fourth grade, the magic of the teacher you have this year (someone pinch me, are we really that blessed?), the magic of seeing old friends, the magic of making new ones, the magic of new pencils, and perfect tip crayons, the magic of your beautiful classroom with every little detail planned and created just for you and your classmates, the magic of learning, the magic of growing, the magic of your smile all day long.

I am so over-the-moon proud of you my sweet pea.  You are smart and you are brave.  And above all you are happy, determined, and kind.  Your smile lights up my world and will light up the classroom.
Use your gifts Abigail.  School is for learning and growing.  But school is also for being a pencil in God's hands.  He'll use you to cheer a friend up, encourage another, smile at teachers, and be hope and joy to all.

Tonight at our back to school feast our family choose our motto for the school year: greatness.  I can't imagine anyone better to grow into greatness than you.  Remember what Daddy said, "greatness isn't born, it's made."  Each day you practice greatness, you will get closer to the awesome plan God has for your life.

I sure will miss your bubbly chatter all day long tomorrow.  But I know you're ready for all things new.  Happy first day sweet girl.  My heart is in yours today, and forever.

The night before third grade is here.
