Things We'll Keep - Tea Time Brunch Menu

School is almost over. Almost. And Scott and I have been talking lately about the 'silver linings' of staying home all of these weeks. There are things we didn't like - of course. But there are lovely, wonderful things that we want to keep as part of our family lives.

Most of them are simple. All of them are life giving. We've found that they breathe life into our family in a way that we didn't think of before.

Tea time brunch is one of those things we will keep long after this time of staying home is gone - Long after we are back physically in our schools.

I know that my children learn about God not always at church. Not always when I'm teaching them from the Bible. Not always when I've got a good teaching moment planned out. My children learn about God from the daily moments that allow them to "taste and see that the Lord is good".

Conversations around our little kitchen table about the world, about faith, about God - listening to their hearts and engaging them in deep thinking and sharing is where they have a chance to connect with something bigger than their lives - bigger than themselves.

Everyday life can be a battle. There are messes and quick words. There is work to do and time limits. But around our table each Sunday after Mass is where we bring beauty to chaos.

The beauty that I take the time to create at our table and the food that tastes so good mirrors the love God has for us. And it's that time that I put in that tells my daughters hearts that they matter - it invites them in.

"Home is not merely a dwelling. It's not merely a state of existence. Its a story, a narrative spun out day by day, a story molded by the walls and hours and tasks and feasts with which we fill our time, reflecting the reality of God whose love animates every aspect of our being." Sarah Clarkson

So this - tea time brunches - is something that we will keep.
