Books

Today was January first... Happy New Year!!!  By Christmas tradition in our home none of Christmas can come down until January first and all of Christmas comes down on January first!  So this is all packed away until next year but I found this little blog post that I never hit publish on weeks ago.

I've got a thing for books

(little entrance table)

(little bathroom shelf.. this one is signed by Anita Lobel... I swoon over autographed books)
3

(oh this first one is vintage... published in 1939... love)

And Children's Books

(The Sweet Smell of Christmas was my favorite when I was Abigail's age... I remember my mom reading it to me... I wanted to be that mama bear when I grew up... baking in her kitchen with her apron on... yes, I knew that way back then)

(wish I had a better picture... this Nutcracker book my Dad bought me when I was around Anna's age.  I remember the book store, the smell, the sunlight.  We were browsing and he said something like, "wow, those illustrations are beautiful" and he bought me the book)

This one is signed too

And when you pair those two things up with my favorite holiday, well, we have books in every single room.

(And this is one of my all time favorites for this poem... sweet little mouse Santa with sparkly glitter on the pages.  Oh Mr. Labadia... a Kindergarten teacher I've know since I was seven gave this to me and had it signed by the illustrator in England... it is a treasure for sure)

(And this...I 'borrowed' from my Mom when I was first married... I wonder if she wants it back... signed to my dad on their first married Christmas)

(board books remind me of little Abigail chubby toddler fingers and buying a book in Barnes and Noble when I shouldn't have been spending the money that year)

(And this illustrator came to talk at Scott's school this year so it's signed too)

Books make me feel comfy and cozy.

(written inside from my Aunt Kathy..."to Anna... I hope you make some gingerbread cookies with mommy this Christmas... but remember.. no peeking" )

Even if their is not enough time to read as much as I'd like to (hey, January is coming!) I've just got to have them around me.

Books bring about feelings of warmth and a glow within.

(I suppose the very best book is the one that happens to be on my bedside table because it's the one I'm reading)

They are my little treasures this season; I love them so!

(And the best... the very best childrens Christmas stories... why Little House of course!  Tales of a simpler time)

  2. Oh I just love all your wonderful Christmas books. We love books here as well. Our new home has a wonderful bookshelf upstairs and I just love seeing the kids sitting by it reading.
