Once Christmas is all packed away and Valentines Day is just too too far away I decorate for winter. And then it's easy in February when all of those pink and red hearts come out they just mix right into my snowy displays.
I love winter. It's cozy and cold. The perfect excuse for that extra cup of tea and muffin. These are Orange-scented, toasted almond and olive oil muffins. Lovely on a day like today. I'll take one for Anna after school when we go straight to her viola lesson. And for my little allergic to most of the ingredients in there.. I baked some chocolate chip banana muffins.
I'm always inspired by other blogs out there and I love to peek inside 'real homes' not those blogs that make you feel like you house is so plain. You know the ones. They are decorators for sure and on no budget what-so-ever. Yes their homes are ammmmazing but to me not homey at all. To me a home must first of all be functional but then pretty, cozy, and lovely to the people who spend their time in it. So my little things up around the house in January make me happy. They're just little but they make me smile.
Like my windowsill above my kitchen sink. I filled the sill with a little garden gate that has a little sparkly snow sprayed on it. I added in some fluffy snow and my little winter birds. Scott surprised me with these little LED lights. Nice and bright. They light up the snow and look darling at night.
I love my little snowflakes and use them all around the house this time of year.
Add a little garland here
and a little more garland there
some wintry books by the fireplace
fill a hutch or two with sweet winter things
(my grandmothers teacups)
(my aunts dishes that were her aunts...and there's a story there for another day... oh how I love these dishes)
(when Abigail painted this mini portrait of our home I knew I'd love it forever)
and there you have it. My simple January touches around the house.
Now for some tea!
And I love it.
ReplyDeleteSimply love!!!
The touches of cozy winter throughout your home make me want to knock on the door, stomp my feet, take off my coat, and sit and share a cup of tea.
I guess doing it through our blogs across the miles will have to do. For now. : )
I love it, too! I'll have to post a pic of my piano now in the foyer looking so forlorn since it was moved out of the living room in order for the tree to fit. We are NOT moving it back. Too much work. I need decorating tips on what to do with it...

ReplyDeleteI too love taking a peak into others homes. I always love when you show pictures of your beautiful home. The walls in my other house were yellow and seeing your yellow walls makes me want to do some painting.
ReplyDeleteYou have the cutest banners for each season. Do you make some of them? I love the snowflake banner. I could see one like that on my window sill.
