We are still in Vancouver - not Alaska yet - but getting closer!
Today we spent the day in Grouse Mountain : The Peak of Vancouver. Check out their website here because our pictures just don't capture the height.
The first hikers made it in 4 days to the peak in 1894. They named the mountain and it has been a place of beauty and activities since then.
You start by taking a sky ride to the mid area.
Once you are at the top of the mountain there is a whole recreation area - gift shops - restaurants - this is looking down at that area.
And here is a close up of that main building.
It was foggy and really cold when we got up there - but oh so beautiful.
We watched a bird demonstration here - what a view!
And while we were waiting we overlooked scenes like this!
From this area you could see all of the city of Vancouver just below us
We laughed and loved this lumberjack show.
We saw bears!!!
Then we headed up farther on ski lifts! Here you can see the area where we spent most of the day. It's the top of Grouse Mountain but taking this picture we were actually on a higher lookout.
Here's a shot Scott took with his phone on our way up the extra look out.
Lovely restaurant for lunch over looking everything.
Traveling with so many allergies can be very challenging. Abigail can't ever pick something off a menu. Everything has to custom made. So 'take out' or 'quick service' is totally out for our family. We can only go to the nicer, sit down restaurants. It's important for us to make a connection with the chef so that he/she can make Abigail something. In all of our travels we have had difficulties and stress finding non-allergic food for our little girl. But we've always found a way. This particular chef came out and met Abigail, sat down next to her, and asked her what she like to eat. We were so grateful for his kindness.
He created this after talking to her about all of the food she liked.
And 'on the house' he insisted on making a gourmet dessert for both Anna and Abigail that was typical for a Vancouver BC treat.
Abigail left him a note saying that she would never forget him.
Then back in Vancouver Scott took Abigail on a little walk to find a warmer coat. She had some options but after a really cold day on top of the mountain we wanted to make sure she had an extra coat. He found one at a North Face store!
Next day -- Cruise day!
Beautiful photos.

I teared up about the chef and making the girls a special dessert as well! I just love the kindness, what a special moment.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures!! I love that the chef came out and met with Abigail. I know he fell in love with her the minute they met.
ReplyDeleteLook at the bears! I am always afraid we will run into a bear when we hike in Lake Tahoe.
