Cozy Christmas Eve

It sure was a cozy kind of Christmas Eve - -

Until I was kinda sad that we were all in our cozy clothes.
Because guess what?! Christmas Eve isn't ever cozy for us.

It's elegant and dressy.

It's heals on me and white tights on Abigail.

It's a tie on Scott and his dressy church coat.

So we fixed it. {Scott's idea}

We got all dressed up...

And drove to our church. And listened to the bells calling everyone in. We sat in the car in silence wanting more than anything in the world to be in that place. Our church for twenty-five years.

But we couldn't. It's a Covid-19 year. And although they had a sign up, only allowed a certain amount in, took temperatures, made families sit distanced from other families... we follow the rules. And being indoor when it's not mandatory, for more than 15 minutes isn't safe right now.

But we drove there. We felt that deep longing for that sacred place -- in gratitude.

We held hands and I cried and cried. Scott had tears too.

Knowing that one day when we can return and certainly next Christmas Eve we will never take our beautiful church for granted.

So after we drove home there was tea,

and plates of cookies,

and a long reading from this book that has really carried us through this Advent season. {talk about grateful}

and a 1938 little Christmas story that we read too.

Quiet, elegant, and cozy all mixed together.
