Homecoming - How It Happened in a Few Hours

Anna never went to Homecoming - no interest.

Abigail is now a Sophomore in high school so in some ways (because teens are so different from each other), it's like having a first all over again.

And it's fun!

So when Abigail sent us a text on Thursday afternoon (two days before Homecoming) with something like "you don't have to say yes. It can totally be a no but Abby is going to Homecoming and she really wants me to go too."

I said sure, why not!

My only "rules" since it was so last minute were that

1. We think of this as a first Homecoming trial run, not the whole big deal

2. We drop you off - we pick you up when it's over - no friends parents car, no pre pictures, none of that

3. Find something in your closet to wear, no last minute mall trip

Just go - have fun - and if you want to 'do Homecoming' big next year, we'll be ready!

And she was all in!

So we pulled out all of her dresses and she settled on a 'getting too short' Christmas dress. Perfect actually! Just right.

She just brushed her hair, I helped her put on a little blush and mascara. She borrowed a tiny black velvet purse I had (for her phone and epipen) and off she went with a huge smile and the best attitude!

Scott dropped her off and as she got out of the car her friends saw her right away.

She had the B E S T time dancing and being with her friends, and we picked her up when it was all over.

It was sooooOooooo refreshing to not do "all that stuff" that goes with those events and just go -- maybe even more fun this way!

So proud of you Abigail for rockin the 'trial run' Homecoming! With your sweet smile, who needs all that fancy stuff! You were darling, and fun, and a light!

  1. She looks so beautiful. Very grown up but still sweet and innocent somehow. So glad she enjoyed the dance!
