Autumn In Vermont {part 2}

Well after out spectacular drive up and after the craft fair and after checking into our sweet hotel and after checking out the grounds, the river, the 'backyard', we decided to walk into town. I thought you'd like to see what the houses look like in the fall - in Woodstock, Vermont. I love looking at houses, don't you?

So just up this sidewalk we went.

White picket fences, lined with pumpkins.

Sweetest houses lined the streets. Everyone doing their part to celebrate fall.

vermont town 8

I loved how this house didn't face the sidewalk - and oh that fence! Made me want to run home and buy a bunch of little pumpkins for our fence.

Loved this backyard how it sloaped down.

Right at the 'top' of the street is the church. Just look at the mountains behind.

Love the red door -

We did some meandering in town - in and out of shoppes.

With scenes like these right next to stores.

Another house doing their part to welcome us and make the street pretty.

vermont town 18

Of course we went in...

vermont town 19

In New England we call this 'peak leaf season'.

And then we meandered our way back to the hotel because it was time to change for dinner at the Woodstock Inn. So after changing we walked back through town.

Here I'm standing inside a gift shoppe that had a porch - this was the view.

This is the famous covered bridge right in the heart of Woodstock. It felt almost like the leaves waited just for us - 'here come that family celebrating fall'

This Inn was just across the street from the covered bridge.

It was hard for me to walk inside when the light was just perfect and the trees seemed to glow.

Quite possibly my favorite picture out of all 101...

We sat in their lobby by a big crackling fire waiting for our table.

And we lingered over a delicious meal.

Not pictured that I'll carry as a memory in my heart was the C O L D walk back through town to our hotel room - and how when we were all in our cozy pjs we were eating dessert I had packed and watching a fun fall Hallmark movie. All together. All in one room. Just the 4 of us. I would work that hard at 'back to school' just for that night.

Autumn in Vermont

"There is no doubt that running away on a fresh blue morning can be exhilarating," Jean Rhys

Scott took us on the most wonderful fall trip - oh just thinking about it makes me so happy. I can't wait to show you --

I have edited all of the photos - all set to put up on this blog - but there are 101 and so it might take me a few days.

(side note- I am sitting in bed typing this first Vermont post. There are Christmas sheets and Christmas pillows and 2 lit up trees in this cozy room of mine. It's hard to imagine that fall was here. I already miss it so)

We left for this marvelous fall trip on October 13th. We had Monday off from school and so we took advantage of that extra day. We left on Sunday - early in the morning (since the girls have viola commitments on Saturday) It was the perfect amount of time to be away.

We were celebrating -- we had so much to celebrate. We made it through 'back to school'. It is a really tricky time of year for a family with 2 daughters in school (of course) but then add a 4th grade teacher and a principal husband and 'back to school' is all about survival for us. And we made it! So off we went to celebrate!

We took the highway there but on the way home we were all back roads. But even the highway made me happy because it was just so beautiful.

Leaving Connecticut it wasn't peak leaf time yet. But headed to Vermont it was wonderful. The leaves seemed to welcome up as we drove up north. Just two hours made a difference.

Just 2 hours later and this sing rang joybells in my heart.

I just love it when the bright colors are set off with two pine trees on either side.

vermont drive 8

Did you ever see something as wonderful?

vermont drive 9

I sat in that car leaning forward, big smile on my face, watching the leaves and clicking away.

vermont drive 10

Hills on fire with red.

vermont drive 11

And we made it -- to the Vermont Country Fair -- sweetest little fair --

We stayed in a town called Woodstock, Vermont. It's the perfect little town to visit in the fall and I highly recommend it!

We read about a craft fair and it happened to fall on the day we were arriving. I wish I could show you a picture from our car but it went by too fast. Let me see if I can tell you the picture. We were just arriving in Woodstock, red covered bridges, farms on either side of us, over a bridge, and there, looking down was a sort of town green. And on that green were all white tents set up in a row. Just waiting for us! So down the hill we drove and the first order of business was to eat. Is there anything like fall fair food? Nothing!

Too hungry to look up for the camera for sure!

vermont drive 12

I'm sure Vermont right now in early November is already getting pretty cold, but back on October 13th it was fall weather perfection.

vermont drive 13

Yes, it was so so good!

vermont drive 14

So our sweet Abigail sprained her finger and had to wear this soft cast for a week.

vermont drive 15

vermont drive 16

There was shopping and tiny fudge eating (fudge in the shape of an ice cream cone)

vermont drive 17

We brought all of Abigail's food and this from a bakery near us that has allergy safe food - an cider donut!

After eating and shopping it was off to check into our hotel.

Oh how I loved loved this sweet hotel.

The perfect fall getaway hotel. This was the 'back yard'.

Big Adirondack chairs, the river, and that view...

"Leaf peep in your own neighborhood or plan a special trip to famously GORGEOUS New England & watch the leaves change color around old churches" Susan Branch (and I would add rivers)
