Little Scenes Around Our Home This Winter

It can be fun to look at the house with fresh eyes after all of the glitter comes down when Christmastime is over. 

This year instead of keeping a neutral and creamy palate, I wanted to actually decorate for winter.  

I kept up some of the greens and added in winter trees, a orangy pink and blues. I really do love the cozy that it's brought to our house post holiday. I'll show you around: 

Our Laundry Room / Mud Room : 

I know I have a lot of pictures of this but it's even more adorable in person and impossible to capture. 

I added 

💙 'snowy' greens with twinkly lights above the cabinets. 

💙 on the little step stool, a mini garland of glittering snowflakes 

💙 A wooden house with a cute light inside next to a paper tree 

💙The candle is Antique Candle Co - Pine Trees 

💙 I keep it convenient with my laundry sheets right up there along with my dryer balls, so easy! 

💙 Even our cleaning supplies are right there ready to be grabbed to clean bathrooms, counters, messes

Our Dining Room: 

With the big Christmas tree down I knew I couldn't keep this room empty. So I took out the ornaments that were in the centerpiece and left the rest until Valentines Day. I still love the same color scheme in there. It all matches our Hitchcock furniture perfectly: greens, golds, orange... 

🧡A few rose colored winter paper trees in there just add a new look for January 

🧡I don't think I could ever get tired of this centerpieces with the sprayed gold pinecones, glittering fruit, greens, magnolia leaves, brass candlesticks... 

Our Kitchen 

New 'curtains' from beautiful block print napkins on our brass bar really brightened up this space and I love it! 

🧡I kept the little snow covered antique houses on the windowsill 

🧡The teapots came back - I missed them 

🧡I don't have a close up of the art hanging but it's an adorable winter scene from Lore Pemberton and it makes the so charming right there

❤ Little mittens on the crock that holds all of our wooden spoons and a peek toward the baking center

❤ That Hot Cocoa pitcher I found at an antique shop and squealed out loud I loved it so much - I'll almost be sad when winter is over and I have to pack it away 

❤ This signed print too, found at an antique store - I adore that sled in the snow

❤ Grab and go cinnamon sugar and preserves in our jelly cupboard ready for all of that homemade bread I've been baking (another post on that soon) 

❤ On the other side of the kitchen (near the table) I have open shelving and I kept it simple for winter, all of the ironstone creamer, pitchers, and some ivory paper trees. 

Our Family Room

💕 I love how the mantle turned out - I kept all of the brass candlesticks, twinkle lights, and greenery and added in some wooden houses for coziness

I don't have pictures of everything. More to come when I can. I do love this time of year. When it's bitter cold outside or when there's snow or ice, as long as we can be inside, it's delightfully cozy and warm. 

Fall in Our Home ~ part 3 ~ Dining Room annnnd a little story about how I decorate these days

A Cozy Corner of our Kitchen  

General Store

Today I woke up (Saturday) and it was oh so sunny in our dining room. I love this space in the fall because of all of the woods, warm tones, dishes with gold rims, and Hitchcock chairs (my love of Hitchcock runs deep as found a bunch of posts like this one and this one and this one) 

My decorating style is simple. I love vintage, classic, antique, traditional. I don't use anything from Homegoods, Target, Amazon, or Hobby Lobby. I don't like decor that needs to be stored away in a different season. I also don't like signs with quotes on them. I love real art: watercolor, oil paintings... I love decorating with old books from wonderful authors, I love dishes that have stood the classic test of time, I love woods and anything made beautifully. I love ironstone and baskets that are antiques. 

Here is a peek into our dining room: 

My decorating style has evolved over the years for sure. I just to love 'all that stuff' that was seasonal at all those stores. Now I just can't even look at those stores. For some reason being in 'those stores' bring me anxiety and make me want to clean out my house. For real! But meandering through an antique store makes me feel peaceful, calm, and cozy. Dim lights, jazz music, peaceful. 

Please please know there is nothing wrong with filling your cart at 40% off stores. No judgement. I used to decorate that way. I loved all of that, had all of that. 

I've just changed and love my rooms to look almost the same season to season. Just changing the dishes and flowers - maybe throwing in a pumpkin is all I need. 

Classic, traditional, classy, antique. 

I wish I could afford more oil paintings. That's the only thing. This way I now decorate takes T I M E because you really have to hunt for things and save your money for bigger things. 

But it make me happier and I love having less but better quality.

Holiday Home Tour ~ Our Christmassy Living Room

This is always one of the last rooms that end up on this blog because it's just not done until the third week of Advent. We don't put our real tree up until that pink candle Sunday. I think it keeps it extra special and magical that this tree is just now up. 

And oh how it is so worth it! 

I love this room at night... 

and in the middle of the day too! 

This year I added lights to the mantle garland and bows I made out of thin velvet ribbon. 

My favorite decoration in our whole house are my daughter's handprints from their preschool days. So precious to me.

I love how I can see the huge wreath on the window outside from in our living room.

A reminder to all in our home that we adore and honor the Christ child this season. 

This room is cozy and I can see our family room from inside. 

I adore my Christmas Hitchcock chair, hand painted. 

I found this treasure at an antique store. It is labeled on the back 1888. It is in such good condition and I will keep it here all year long. It brings me just joy thinking about how it was hanging in a house for over 100 years!
